Renewing a private firearm license: a checklist so you don't miss the date

When to start, what to prepare and how not to forget — a preparation checklist for renewing a private firearm license in Israel, with pointers to official sources.

2 min read · Published

The worst thing that can happen with a private firearm license is discovering it has already expired — which can mean depositing your firearm and a long process. This checklist helps you get organized in time.

Important: requirements, deadlines and forms are set by the Firearms Licensing Department and change from time to time. Always check the current information on gov.il and with the department. This article is a general preparation list only.

1. Know your expiry date

It's on the license. Put it somewhere you'll actually see it. In Kadurim you can enter it in your profile and the dashboard warns you 60 days ahead.

2. Start early

Dealing with authorities takes time — appointments, documents. Start at least two months before the date.

3. Range refresher

Renewal usually involves a refresher training at an authorized range. Check in advance which ranges near you are authorized, available dates (they fill up before year-end and holidays), and the price and what it includes. Kadurim lets you compare training and refresher prices in the Compare prices tab.

4. Documents

Prepare what's typically needed — ID, current license details, firearm details (make, model, serial number) and any form or declaration the department requires (e.g. a health declaration). Check the exact, current list on gov.il.

5. After renewal

Update the new expiry date in your profile so the next reminder arrives on time, and keep a copy of the license somewhere safe.

Quick checklist

  • I know my expiry date and have a reminder
  • I checked the current requirements on gov.il
  • I booked a refresher at an authorized range
  • I prepared the documents and forms
  • I updated the new expiry date after renewing

Not legal advice. Official requirements are set by the competent authorities.
