Periodic refresher training: when, what it includes and what happens if you miss it
In the second year of every private firearm license you must do a refresher at an authorized range. What it includes, what to bring, and what happens if you don't do it in time.

A private firearm license runs for three years, and halfway through there's an obligation that's easy to forget: the periodic refresher training. Miss it and you may have to deposit your firearm within 72 hours.
Important: this is based on the gov.il service page. Requirements and forms change from time to time, so check the current version there before you go.
Who has to do it
Anyone holding a private firearm license.
When
The refresher is done in the second year of the license period. The cycle repeats with every license:
| Year | What happens |
|---|---|
| Year 1 | You receive the license (after the licensing training) |
| Year 2 | Periodic refresher training |
| Year 3 | Renewal training, then a new license period starts |
At the start of the second year a reminder is sent by Israel Post and electronically. In Kadurim you can enter your license expiry in your profile: we work out the second year, show it in your profile and on the dashboard, and remind you when it opens and 60 and 14 days before it ends.
What it includes
- A theory part;
- A practical part: a 40-round shooting session, ending with a 10-round qualification test. Passing score: 70%.
If you don't pass, you can do additional refreshers within 30 days of the first one.
What to bring
- The refresher training approval form (Hebrew): print it and bring it to an authorized training range.
- The license holder's health declaration, shown to the range manager. If anything you declared in your license or renewal application has changed, also attach an up-to-date health declaration.
Once you meet the requirements, the range management signs the form and sends a copy to the licensing office. Carry the approval whenever you carry the firearm.
If you don't do it in time
- You'll be required to deposit the firearm with a licensed dealer within 72 hours of a notice from the licensing officer;
- If you don't, the license is revoked and the firearm must be deposited at a police station immediately;
- After revocation, a new license needs a new application, the full training program and meeting the criteria in force at that time.
In Kadurim you can find places that offer weapon deposit and compare their monthly price.
Quick checklist
- I entered my license expiry in my profile
- I printed the approval form and filled in the health declaration
- I booked a refresher at an authorized range in the second year
- I marked the refresher as done in my profile
- I carry the signed approval with the firearm
